It’s taken a while…

Although we set up the Dubai company several months ago now, it’s taken quite a while to get set up personally with residence visas and government IDs – in part due to Ramadan and in part due to the sad passing of UAE’s ruler, both of which saw government offices close and the visa process come to a standstill.
But today after more than a few delays and roadblocks – we’re here, we’re official and we’re open!
Based out of Dubai Silicon Oasis in the imaginatively titled building A2, we’re a mere half hour taxi ride from the beating heart of central Dubai – or an hour on the bus, if that’s your thing.
As it stands we’re in a temporary office until we formalize a rental on a larger space, but all very exciting.
Currently we’re seeing a mini-heatwave due to an emirates-wide sand storm meaning temperatures are typically 43c on the ground, which I’ll be honest is quite warm and far higher than the 9 degrees it is back in Scotland today.
The temptation to jump in the sea fully dressed is a hard calling to ignore! It’s comedy hot. Ridiculously hot.
But it’s not all sweating, there’s glamor too. What an amazing, staggering, hyperbolic place. Straight out of a sci-fi film it’s on a scale I’ve never experienced.
First few weeks here I was too busy getting all the legals sorted out for the company and our residence visas, but now I’m really starting to explore the place – and loving the metro.
But best of all? The gold!
After all it’s why we’re here and Dubai doesn’t disappoint. Whether it’s the air conditioned offices in DMCC or the chaotic insanity of the Deira Gold Souk, there’s just wall-to-wall gold. And even the 22k jewelry is near spot, which for me is very dangerous. But always a sound investment!
Now, I’ve got to go start adding more Dubai bullion dealers to the directory. It’s a tough job but someone’s got to do it!
